Frequently asked questions

All properly installed pipe insulation should last about 7 to 10 years or be done at each refit. Unfortunately, many vessels do not have their pipe insulation installed correctly. If your pipe insulation is touching any structure or has anything touching/compressing it, it will cause the insulation to prematurely fail. At Fonz’s Marine Services we do not simply just replace the insulation but get to the root cause of the failure and fix it.

Although the pipe insulation may have been installed correctly, it does have a shelf life. We recommend all pipe insulation to be changed every 7 to 10 years.

Pipe insulation should be changed when there is damage, cuts, mold or slime, or the surface has become dry and hard to the touch.

FMS is based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Our daily range is from Miami to West Palm. But FMS regularly performs work throughout the Caribbean & Worldwide.

Yes! Boats that stay in the water year-round, regardless of location, do need to be bottom cleaned regularly. If not, hair algae, barnacles, and other marine growth will attach to the bottom, propellers, etc. cause strain on components & engines while creating drag

Boats and Yachts based in Florida should be cleaned on a minimum of a monthly basis due to FL year-round warm waters. Some areas of Miami and West Palm Beach require cleanings on a bi-weekly basis

Every vessel is different depending on multiple factors. Every 6 months to a year is a good starting point.

The bottom should be painted every year to reduce growth and the possibilty of damage to the hull from marine growth. A minimum of 2 coats should be applied.
